Understanding horse feed and determining the best options for your horses can be difficult and time-consuming. It’s only natural that we all make a few mistakes. iFEED Tech is bringing you a few of the most common horse feed mistakes – make sure you aren’t committing one of these BIG no’s.
Horses might have a BIG appetite and eat all the horse feed you give them, but it’s not always the best or most natural for them. In fact, horses should actually eat in smaller portions throughout the day. If your horse is very active and requires lots of horse feed each day, consider using the iFEED system to break their feed into smaller portions throughout the day.
Using Volume, Not Weight
When you are changing horse feed, it is important to measure by weight and not volume. Different horse feeds have different weights – and most bags have suggestions on how much to feed by the pound. Therefore, if you are changing feeds, make sure you measure out the amount in weight. You might be accidentally underfeeding or overfeeding your horse!
Not Enough Water
Water is just as important to horses as humans. Of course, you may have heard that offering very cold water could be harmful to your horse’s digestion – but, don’t fret. These old tales simply aren’t true. Water is a very important aspect of your horse’s diet and should be treated as such. Make sure your horses always have access to clean, drinkable water – it’ll make them happier in the long-run.
